EasyJet successfully tested hydrogen-powered jet engine!

The first test of a #hydrogen #engine for #civil #Aviation has been successfully completed in the #UK.

Specifically, it is a Rolls Royce AE 2100-A regional #aircraft engine converted to run on #renewable hydrogen from wind and tidal power.

The ground test is a UK industry first made possible by a #partnership with #EasyJet as part of the ‘Race to Zero’ #strategy, the global campaign to achieve #carbon neutrality by the middle of this century.

The two companies announced in their statement that, “The #success of this hydrogen test is an exciting #milestone,” … “we are pushing the #boundaries to discover the #possibilities that hydrogen can offer for carbon neutral aviation.

Following #dataanalysis on the first prototype tested at the #British Ministry of Defence-owned facility in Boscombe, the #companies have announced subsequent tests to develop an engine for #industrial-scale #production!
